Demand for fuel efficient engines with premium badges is increasing day by day and Mercedes has responded by equipping its A-Class and B-Class with a range of fuel efficient engines and not only that the newly launched CLA compact saloon has got the 4MATIC with fully variable torque distribution on the 211 bhp CLA 250 variant.  Along with that there is also the CLA 45 AMG which has been discussed in detail in our earlier posts, has its pricing and other details revealed. The CLA 45 AMG has 360 bhp a maximum torque of 450 Nm and it is the world’s most powerful series-production four-cylinder engine.

Mercedes-Benz-CLA-Class

Back to the A-Class and with the A 160 CDI, Mercedes-Benz is adding an economical entry-level model to the A-Class range. It has a displacement of 1461 cc, output of 90 bhp and maximum torque of 220 Nm in the range from 1750 to 2750 rpm. The A 160 CDI has a top speed of 180 km/h and has a combined consumption figure of 3.8 l/100 km.

Just like in the A-Class the B-Class also get a new entry-level diesel model which is the B 160 CDI. It makes 90 bhp and has a six-speed manual transmission. There is also the B 180 CDI which has a four-cylinder diesel engine with a displacement of 1461 cc. It makes 109 bhp.

Mercedes B-Class

In the case of the B 180 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Edition (available worldwide from September), it has been possible to reduce consumption even further by seven percent to 3.8 litres of diesel per 100 km. The additional aerodynamic changes for this include for example the partial covering of the top part of the radiator grille, aerodynamically shaped spring link covers and lowering of the suspension. The manual transmission has also been revised and now has a longer ratio in the upper gears.

It does not end there as there is the B 220 4MATIC- the first B-Class with all-wheel drive. It gets the 184 bhp 1991 cc four-cylinder turbocharged engine which helps it accelerate from 0- 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and consumes 6.5 l/100 km.
